Della Schaffer has always had the urge to make and do.
After completing her AudioVisual Technician diploma at Saskatchewanʼs Institute of Science and Technology (1993) she worked as a production assistant with the local television station. She thoroughly enjoyed the process of planning, writing, scripting and filming video productions and an Aboriginal Docu-series (Heartbeat of the North).
1999 saw a shift for her to graphic creation and lay out with the Prince Albert Daily Herald. She enjoyed creating layouts and designs within the tight printing deadlines. Wanting to further her knowledge, she attended Heinze Institute of Technology for New Media / Web Design (Saskatoon, 2001).
She always made time to get out and enjoy the outdoors via camping, hiking, wild food foraging. Her life long love and intrigue with mycology was 100% expanded when she moved with her husband to Nelson British Columbia. Choosing to stay home with her son Riel gave her freedom to photograph and harvest local fungi for markets and restaurants.
Wanting to capture the macro environments she viewed thru her camera lens, she began creating terrariums and terrarium pendants. Learning how to preserve (color and detail) mushrooms, moss, lichen and other flora became her focus. Out of this Moss Walker Designs was born. She created an online presence with an Etsy shop, and became a vendor with Kootenay Artisan Fair (2009 – 2019) in Nelson BC. She also had a successful show in Vancouver, at Make It! Christmas Show in 2019.
Della is currently attending Kootenay School of Art for Ceramics Studio, and plans to expand her products to include nature inspired ceramics.
